DC Galleries COLLABORATE

My heart is light and I am hopeful, as the change I so hoped to see has begun.

DC is moving towards a truly supportive and less competitive community for the artists that reside here. Artist Collaboratives are rapidly growing and putting on their own exciting pop-ups shows. Galleries have begun to WORK TOGETHER to bring more artists to wider audiences, and support is building for this concept.

Last month we saw the lovely LUST show spearheaded by ArtDC, spreading out to 2 other galleries.

Now the undercover annual Moca DC event, Erotica 2010, is expanding into ArtDC, Design Studio Art Gallery, and Cheryl Edwards Studio.

I would love to see exclusively top notch work at these shows. Therefore...

CALL FOR ARTISTS

Drop Off: All work must be delivered to artdc.org Lustine Gallery between the hours of 12 pm to 2 pm on Saturday, March 6th. (We will accept work at the artdc Gallery as a central location for display in these spaces)

Install: March 6 from 12 to 2pm

Reception: March 13 from 6 to 9pm

De-install: April 4 from 12 to 2pm

Hanging Fee: $10.00 per art work- Artwork: Maximum size 24x30, and work must be ready to hang

Commission:
30% to the gallery for all sales developing from this exhibition

Matt Sesow, Dana Ellyn Gallery Exhibit at Long View Gallery Opens Feb 5 With Couple’s Wedding



On Friday, February 5, from 6:30 - 9:30 PM, two of Washington, DC's most celebrated local artists will tie the knot at Long View Gallery at 1234 9th St NW.


During the opening night reception for Dana Ellyn and Matt Sesow's "Till Death Do Us Part" art exhibition, the long-time couple will exchange nuptials. The couple is inviting all of DC's artists, collectors, and art enthusiasts to the public event.

URBAN FOREST Project in DC!

The URBAN FOREST Project seeks sponsors for a massive spring art event in DC:


"The Urban Forest Project is a series of unprecedented outdoor banner exhibitions taking root in cities around the world. In each location, artists, designers, students and the general public will employ the idea or form of the tree to make a powerful visual statement on banners that will be displayed throughout the community.


The tree is a metaphor for sustainability and, in that spirit, the banners at the close of each exhibition will be recycled into totebags and auctioned off to raise money for a local non-profit organization." Proceeds will go to support local Washington, DC tree planting and sustainability initiatives.


This project, conceived by Worldstudio, is being presented in Washington, DC by the District Department of Transportation (DDOT), in collaboration with the Corcoran College of Art and Design, AIGA DC and Downtown DC Business Improvement District. Seed funding for the project was provided through a grant from the USDA Forest Service.

ADS vs. AIDS

Don't miss this important historical collection of ORIGINAL Advertisements from the 80's AIDS epidemic.

AIDS is still very much an ongoing battle. These images depict deeply impactful awareness-raising campaigns, from the beginning of the outbreak here in the U.S. The ideas presented here are still very relevant.

The condom-centric show features works like: "He Loves me, He loves me not" then "He Loves Me" printed next a beautiful huge condom; Sleep With A Lifeguard Tonight” and "Stops Transmission-Fluid Leaks" are other classics from the period.

Proceeds from the professionally framed images benefit Whitman-Walker Clinic and Food & Friends. -All images donated by Jeff McElhaney.
